Mora Wang
Born 1977 in Sichuan province, China, Mora Wang received both her BA and MA at the Sichuan Academy of Art, Chongqing, China. She is currently living between Shanghai and Chongqing, working part-time as a painting instructor at the Sichuan Art Academy. Her most recent exhibitions include the public installation project “We are One,” (Beijing, China 2010), “International Festival of Contemporary Art,” Algiers Mama Museum (Algeria 2009), “Cactus Solo Exhibition,” Vanguard Gallery (Shanghai, China 2008), “Happy Together,” Narana art center (Shanghai, China 2008), “Seoul International Contemporary Art Festival” (Seoul, Korea 2008).
“Individual space is largely the concept of my paintings. Spatial experience determs the process and narrative of my works. In this way, experience of a space/place becomes an essential part of my daily life. I try to interpret both the physical and non-physical space around me, which will later be explored it in my paintings. This examination of both public and private space often takes on the form of abstract expression. In fact it is the restructuring through fragmented memories of real-life places in my past and present that are the subject of my paintings. The personal feelings associated to a place in the paintings surpass the actual physicality of that particular place.”
