Nicole Teng
Born in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, Nicole Teng graduated from Shih Hsin University, Public Communication department in 1999. After graduation Nicole worked with international advertising agencies such as Ogilvy & Matter, BBDO, J Walter Thompson in bothTaipei and Shanghai. After two years in Shanghai she left the advertising industry to pursue fine arts. While co-founding and operating Plum Gallery, she began to focus more time on her own interests in pottery.
Nicole identifies with the traditions and techniques of crafts people, while striving to differentiate her work through the originality and creativity of her own ideals. The driving force behind her design is a philosophy she developed and labels “Brut Cake”. Uniting “Brut” a reference to the Art Brut movement originating in France, with the pleasure associated with eating “Cake,” Nicole combines elements of raw and original production with a sense of optimism and simplicity.
More recently Nicole has been focusing on eco-design employing recycled or reclaimed materials and reworking them into new pieces. In 2010 she was invited to create a limited edition line for Taipei Home Hotel, and this year has been awarded a development grant from the Council for Cultural Affairs of Taiwan.
